A case about moral policing has been officially registered in Belagavi, Karnataka, following an alleged assault on a Dalit Hindu boy and a Muslim girl by a group of Muslim men. The incident, which reportedly unfolded near Killa Lake in Belagavi, resulted in the victims, Sachin Lamani, 18, and Muskan Patel, 22, enduring a prolonged assault involving the use of pipes and rods. The assault was allegedly instigated due to the victims sitting together.
Upon filing a complaint with the police after the attack, the Belagavi Police have taken nine individuals suspected of involvement in the assault into custody. The victims, Sachin and Muskan, reported the incident, prompting the registration of a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
Sachin Lamani recounted the harrowing experience, stating that the attackers questioned the duo about their religious differences, expressing disapproval of a Hindu and a Muslim sitting together. Sachin clarified that Muskan was his own aunt's daughter and not of a different faith. The assailants reportedly confiscated both victims' mobile phones and took away Rs 7,000 during the assault.
The incident transpired when Sachin and Muskan visited Killa Lake in Belagavi after being asked to return later while applying for Siddaramaiah's Yuva Nidhi scheme. In the course of the attack, the miscreants, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, approached the victims near Killa Lake and inquired about their names. Learning of their different religions, the assailants confronted Sachin about sitting beside Muskan, leading to verbal abuse that escalated into physical violence.
Sachin Lamani further revealed that the assault continued in a separate room, where additional individuals joined the initial attackers. The assailants subjected Sachin to brutal thrashing until Saturday evening. Muskan also endured physical assault during the incident, according to police sources.
