An Israeli man named Roi Yifrach, who lacked military service, has been charged with impersonating a soldier and theft of weapons. The indictment, filed on Sunday, alleges that Yifrach exploited the chaotic aftermath of Hamas's October 7 attack to participate in combat operations and pilfer significant amounts of military equipment, including weapons, munitions, and sensitive communications devices.
Reportedly, Yifrach spent time engaged in fighting in Gaza and even appeared in a photograph alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during one of his visits to soldiers in the field. On October 7, he went to southern Israel, presenting himself alternatively as a combat soldier from elite anti-terrorism units, a bomb dispersal expert, and a member of the Shin Bet internal security service.
Yifrach was apprehended by the police on December 17, and upon his arrest, a substantial cache of weapons, grenades, magazines, walkie-talkies, a drone, uniforms, and various other military equipment were discovered in his possession.
Eitan Sabag, Yifrach's lawyer, stated that Yifrach went to the south to assist as a paramedic with a first responder organization and valiantly fought to defend Israel for over two months. Sabag emphasized that Yifrach was aiding and rescuing people under fire while combating terrorists.
