Major update on airport flight operations in Delhi during Republic Day

Flight operations at the Delhi airport are set to face restrictions for an approximate duration of three hours, spanning from January 19 to 26, in light of the Republic Day preparations.

According to a notice issued through NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), there will be a temporary cessation of flight operations at the Delhi airport between 10:20 am and 12:45 pm from January 19 to 26.

As reported on X, the airport authorities stated that, by the NOTAM notice, no incoming or outgoing flights will be permitted at Delhi airport during the specified 2-hour and 15-minute duration within the mentioned time frame.

Furthermore, news agency ANI conveyed on Tuesday, January 16, that there could be airspace restrictions at the Delhi airport from January 19 to 25, as well as on January 26 and 29. Officials clarified that these restrictions would not affect the operations of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Indian Army helicopter activities, along with state-owned aircraft/helicopters used by Governors or Chief Ministers.

With India gearing up to celebrate its 77th Independence Day on January 26, 2024, security measures have been heightened in Delhi, particularly in anticipation of the Republic Day festivities, which will attract several distinguished personalities. Among them is French President Emmanuel Macron, who will serve as the chief guest for this year's Republic Day.

In addition to the airport, security has been reinforced at Delhi Metro stations, leading to enhanced checks by the CISF across stations until January 27. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, anticipate potential queues at metro stations, and cooperate with security personnel during the heightened security measures.

Meanwhile, at Lucknow airport in Uttar Pradesh, security arrangements have been stepped up ahead of the 'Pran Pratistha' ceremony for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22. Effective tomorrow, January 20, visitor passes will not be available at the venue, and additional security personnel have been deployed. The CISF has increased patrolling in the city as part of these measures.
