Details from an incident report, obtained by Reuters, shed light on the events surrounding this second alarming occurrence.
On January 1, a Charleston County sheriff’s deputy responded to Haley's home upon receiving a 911 call from an individual identifying themselves as “Rose”. The caller claimed that Haley’s daughter was injured, lying in a pool of blood, and that Haley herself was threatening self-harm with a firearm, alleging to be speaking to Haley over the phone.
Upon arrival, the deputy encountered an unidentified woman at the residence matching Haley's description. Swiftly concluding that the call was a hoax, the deputy dismissed the incident as unfounded. This January 1 swatting episode, previously unreported, adds to the string of concerning incidents targeting Haley, who is currently vying against frontrunner former President Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.
These incidents transpired in Kiawah Island, an affluent gated community in South Carolina. The series of swatting occurrences forms part of a broader trend of escalating threats and intimidation tactics directed at government officials, judiciary members, and election administrators since the 2020 election, raising alarm among law enforcement agencies ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election.
