Numerous UP districts closed their schools due to a chilly snap and warnings of heavy fog

In light of the prevailing cold wave and dense fog conditions in Uttar Pradesh, specifically in Noida and Lucknow, all schools catering to students from Class 1 to Class 8 have been ordered to remain closed until January 6. The decision, implemented by the District Education Officer in Lucknow, follows the current cold wave affecting the entire state and is aligned with the instructions from the District Magistrate.

An official order issued stated, "Regarding the above-mentioned matter, you are aware that at present a cold wave is going on in the entire state including the Lucknow district and it is extremely cold. Following the instructions given by the District Magistrate, you are ordered to ensure leave for all the children studying in school from pre-primary to class 8 till January 6, 2024."

The order further specified that for schools conducting classes from Class 9 to Class 12, their timings should be restricted to between 10:00 am to 03:00 pm. Strict adherence to these guidelines was emphasized, with the threat of stringent action against any school failing to comply.

Similarly, in Noida, a school closure from January 3 to 6 has been announced for students up to Class 8, while classes for students from Class 9 to 12 are continuing. This decision aligns with the orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), predicting cold wave conditions in certain parts of Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for several other areas in the state.

The IMD has also forecasted isolated rains in certain regions of southern Uttar Pradesh on January 3 and 4, with a drop in minimum temperatures anticipated in parts of the state from January 5 onwards. The IMD office in Lucknow highlighted the likelihood of rain in districts such as Jhansi, Banda, Orai, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Varanasi, Chandauli, and nearby areas in the next 48 hours. The state has recently experienced dense to very dense fog on Tuesday.
