Three families found hanging inside a Bengali apartment; authorities believe it was suicide

The discovery was made on Wednesday when the bodies of three family members were found hanging within the confines of a closed room in the Narendrapur area of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, according to the local police. The victims were identified as 75-year-old Swapan Maitra, his 68-year-old wife Aparna Maitra, and their 39-year-old son Suman Raj Maitra. The unsettling incident was brought to light when neighbors observed an unusual lack of activity from the family over the past few days. The concerns escalated on Wednesday morning when residents in adjacent flats detected a foul odor emanating from the premises, prompting them to alert the police.

Upon receiving the information, the police promptly rushed to the scene and discovered the bodies. Subsequently, the bodies were sent for a post-mortem examination. Although the precise cause of death remains undisclosed, preliminary investigations by the police suggest the possibility of a suicide.

Notably, it has emerged that Suman Raj Maitra, the son, had recently conducted a live video session on Facebook wherein he candidly shared his emotional struggles and the mounting pressures he was grappling with. In the live video, Suman conveyed a sense of isolation and intense stress, alluding to the fact that he felt compelled to make decisions on his own due to the absence of someone to confide in.
