In Gujarat's Surat, a private school has unexpectedly announced a five-day holiday for its students, citing the school's teachers and management's desire to go on vacation as the reason.
The revelation surfaced when Aslam Firozbhai Cyclewala, a former city corporator, lodged a complaint with the Surat District Education Officer, bringing attention to the matter.
According to Cyclewala, the administration of Mount Mary Mission Higher Secondary School communicated to parents that the school would be closed from January 9 to 14 due to the teachers planning a picnic.
Situated in the Limbayat area of Surat city, known for its predominantly low-income population, the school's abrupt decision impacted Classes 1 to 10, affecting approximately 1,500 students. Cyclewala reported that the district education officer was unaware of this development, and it was only after he submitted a written complaint on January 10 that the school management formally sought leave from the education department.
Despite the application, the education department rejected it and issued a notice to the school management, as outlined by Cyclewala.
Expressing concern over the impact on the education of 1,500 students, the former corporator called for action against both the school management and teachers for their decision to abruptly close the school for a vacation.
