In the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, an extensive search operation was initiated on Friday following an incident where "suspected terrorists" opened fire at a convoy of Army vehicles in the region.
According to sources, soldiers retaliated by firing back at the attackers, and fortunately, no injuries were reported in the exchange.
A tweet from an Indian Army X (formerly Twitter) handle provided details of the incident, stating that the vehicles were targeted around 6 pm on Friday from a jungle near Krishna Ghati in Poonch. The tweet emphasized that the security forces convoy had been fired upon by suspected terrorists, and the incident resulted in no casualties among the Indian Army personnel. The tweet further mentioned ongoing joint search operations conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the area.
Officials revealed that the attacked vehicles were transporting security personnel back to the camp, as reported by news agency PTI.
This incident occurred after a high-level security meeting chaired by Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi. The meeting aimed to formulate an anti-terror operation plan for the new year, to thwart the designs of terrorists in the region, according to PTI.
The attack on the army vehicles follows a similar incident a few weeks ago when terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles in Poonch, resulting in the tragic death of four soldiers.
On December 21, heavily armed terrorists targeted two Army vehicles at a blind curve near Dhatyar Morh in the Poonch district, leading to the loss of four jawans and injuries to two others.
It is noteworthy that the People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF) claimed responsibility for the December terror attack in Poonch, sharing images from the attack site that revealed the use of sophisticated US-made M4 carbine assault rifles by the terrorists.
