The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Tamil Nadu's ruling party, recently approved a resolution during its 2nd DMK Youth Wing Unit meeting, advocating for the elimination of the Governor's post in the state. The resolution asserted that the central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), endeavors to establish a parallel administration against the elected representatives of the state. The resolution, which highlighted the perceived need to safeguard democracy, was ratified at the meeting chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin's son and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
The DMK resolution also expressed the view that the BJP is a significant adversary to Hindus. It contended that the Narendra Modi government's endeavors to gain electoral support in the name of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya constitute a betrayal of devotees due to unfulfilled promises.
Tamil Nadu Governor Tamilisai Sounderrajan criticized the event, characterizing it as an effort to uphold dynasty politics. In a Facebook post, she raised questions about the relinquishment of rights over the river Cauvery, the transfer of Katchatheevu, the surrender of Jallikattu rights, and the initiation of NEET.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also took a swipe at the DMK government, alleging that the live telecast of the Ram Mandir on January 22 and the puja dedicated to Lord Ram in Tamil Nadu temples had been banned. Sitharaman further claimed that the Tamil Nadu government was unofficially citing law and order concerns to justify the live telecast ban.
During the meeting, Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin read out several resolutions. Many of these resolutions expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu Government and Chief Minister MK Stalin for implementing various beneficial schemes, including free bus transport for women, a morning meal program for school children, and a monthly Rs 1000 allowance for homemakers. The resolutions also called for the reversal of Education from the Concurrent list to the State, preference for Thamizhar (Tamils) in Union Government jobs in Tamil Nadu, continued protests against NEET and the National Education Policy, and the insistence that the State Chief Minister should serve as the Chancellor of Universities. Alongside Udhayanidhi Stalin, his son Inbanithi also participated in the event, witnessing a spectacular drone show depicting the history of the DMK.
