"Want to abuse for two hours": An UP man requests permission to disparage newspaper editors

In an unprecedented plea submitted to Uttar Pradesh authorities in Pratapgarh, a resident from the region has made an unusual request. This unique entreaty involves seeking permission to express his grievances by hurling abuses at a particular media agency for a duration of "two hours." The individual, identified as Prateek Sinha, made this appeal following an article published in the same newspaper that accused him of being involved in land grabbing.

Addressing the sub-divisional magistrate in a letter, Prateek Sinha explained his desire to be granted a two-hour window outside the newspaper's office with a microphone. The genesis of this request lies in the aforementioned article labeling him as a "land mafia," prompting him to respond by issuing a defamation notice to the newspaper.

According to the letter, the individual claims that a bulldozer action was taken on his land without justification on January 9, leading to the newspaper branding him as a "mafia." He contends that the article lacked substantial evidence and tarnished his reputation.

"In opposition to the same (article), I seek permission for January 15 at 12:00 pm to abuse the bureau chief and the reporter for two hours," states the letter.

Remarkably, the letter takes a moment to clarify that the individual has no intention of resorting to violence or threats during this expression of dissatisfaction. He explicitly mentions, "And, I want to assure you (the SDM) that despite great urge, the applicant will not thrash them (newspaper agency) with shoes or threaten them."
