A pilot was detained and a Hyderabad visitor died in a paragliding accident in Himachal

In Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, a tragic incident occurred on Sunday resulting in the death of a tourist from Hyderabad, reportedly due to a paragliding mishap, as confirmed by local authorities. Highlighting the potential cause, a tourism officer hinted at the likelihood of "human error" contributing to the unfortunate event.

Following the incident, law enforcement took swift action, apprehending the paragliding pilot involved, and initiating a thorough magisterial inquiry into the matter.

Initial findings indicate that the pilot may have neglected to properly secure the safety harness of the tourist, leading to the fatal outcome.

Sunaina Sharma, a tourism officer in Kullu, conveyed to PTI that investigations point towards a "human error" being responsible for the accident. She emphasized that all necessary approvals for the site and equipment were obtained, the pilot was duly registered, and no adverse weather conditions were reported at the time.

As a precautionary measure, paragliding operations in the area have been temporarily halted.

An official disclosed that a case has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 336 (on actions endangering the safety of others) and 334 (involving voluntary infliction of harm), leading to the arrest of the pilot. Furthermore, in-depth scrutiny will be conducted through a magisterial inquiry to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.
