During an event, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the importance of prudent fiscal planning by all states, urging them to consider their developmental initiatives and social welfare obligations while formulating their budgets.
Addressing concerns raised about alleged bias in fund allocation by the Central government, Shah underscored the need for states to adopt realistic budgetary approaches. He stressed that states must avoid making impractical electoral promises that strain their financial resources.
The recent protests by the ruling parties in West Bengal, Kerala, and Karnataka, alleging inadequate fund allocation, were countered by the finance minister, who provided a detailed account of fund disbursements in a white paper presented in the Lok Sabha.
Shah highlighted the transparency of fund distribution, citing the white paper's comprehensive breakdown of allocations to states, surpassing previous disbursement records, regardless of the ruling party's affiliation.
Attributing the increase in funds to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proactive measures, especially through the 15th Finance Commission, Shah emphasized the need for fiscal responsibility at the state level. He cautioned against making extravagant promises that could deplete state coffers, leading to financial crises such as the inability to meet salary obligations.
Emphasizing the importance of balanced budgetary planning focused on development and social welfare, Shah reiterated the government's commitment to prudent financial management.
Regarding the contentious issue of 'one nation, one poll,' Shah disclosed that the committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind is expected to submit its report by March. He suggested deferring discussions on the matter until after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Highlighting Prime Minister Modi's stance on synchronized elections for national development and welfare, Shah stressed the necessity of simultaneous polls for comprehensive national progress.
