The remains of Vetri Duraisamy, son of former Chennai City Mayor Saidai Duraisamy, were retrieved from the waters of the Sutlej River approximately nine days after the unfortunate incident where the vehicle he was traveling in plunged into the river in Kinnaur district. Vetri Duraisamy, acclaimed director of the Tamil film 'Endraavathu Oru Naal', was en route from Shimla to Spiti when the calamitous accident occurred on February 4, leading to his disappearance for a period spanning nine days.
Although one of his co-passengers, Gopinath, was successfully rescued and is currently receiving medical attention, the driver of the car, identified as Tenzin, was discovered deceased. Nevertheless, the fate of 45-year-old Vetri remained shrouded in uncertainty.
In a fervent hope for his son's safe return, Saidai Duraisamy announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for any information leading to the whereabouts of Vetri.
During the extensive search efforts, authorities stumbled upon remnants suspected to be human brain matter near the riverbank, which were promptly gathered for forensic examination and DNA analysis to ascertain their connection to Vetri.
A coordinated effort involving various teams including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) Uttarakhand, and local police personnel was initiated to locate Vetri.
Eventually, Vetri's body was discovered on Monday by a team of divers associated with the Mahin Nag Association, roughly three kilometers away from the site of the accident. Subsequently, the body was transported to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGCMH) in Shimla for postmortem examination before being handed over to the bereaved family.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin extended his heartfelt condolences to Saidai Duraisamy, acknowledging the profound grief that no parent should ever have to endure.
