Five individuals referred to as 'Panneerselvam' submit nominations as Independents in Tamil Nadu

Days after former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) filed his nomination papers from the Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency, five others with the same name, 'Panneerselvam', have filed their nominations as independent candidates.

These five nominations were filed from various locations including Usilampatti in Madurai, South Kattur, Vagaikulam village, and Madurai Cholai Azhakupuram, as per data from the Election Commission.

Former Chief Minister OPS filed his nomination with the backing of the BJP and its allies. Addressing the media, he expressed his commitment to addressing the developmental needs of the Ramanathapuram constituency, emphasizing his focus on projects that had been neglected.

Additionally, OPS pledged to prioritize the welfare of fishermen in the coastal areas and assured to take forward their concerns. He mentioned discussing these issues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting his intention to bring about positive changes if elected.

OPS's decision to contest as an independent candidate in alliance with the BJP follows his unsuccessful attempt to retain the flag and letterhead of the AIADMK, as ruled by the Madras High Court.
