"After 2026, there won't be any Hindus in Congress," claims Himanta Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has predicted that the Congress party will cease to exist by 2032, claiming that there will be no representation from the Hindu community in the Congress after 2026 and no Muslims by 2032.

Sarma made these remarks during a press conference on Tuesday, following Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's filing of nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from the Dibrugarh seat.

Highlighting the trend of members of the Congress defecting to the BJP, Sarma expressed his belief that the Congress headquarters in Guwahati, Rajiv Bhawan, would have chairs and rooms but no occupants due to the exodus of party members.

He attributed the acceleration of this trend to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assumption of power in 2014 and suggested that by 2032, the Congress would be completely eradicated.

Sarma's comments come ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Assam, scheduled to be held in three phases on April 19, 26, and May 7. The NDA alliance in the state is contesting all 14 constituencies, with the BJP fielding candidates in 11 seats, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in two seats, and the United Peoples' Party Liberal (UPPL) in one.

In contrast, the Congress, part of the 16-party United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA), is contesting 12 seats and has left the Dibrugarh seat for the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), with the decision for the Lakhimpur seat pending.

Key constituencies in Assam for the upcoming elections include Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kaziranga, Guwahati, Dhubri, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Barpeta, and Silchar.
