Six Naxals are slain in a Chhattisgarh encounter with security troops

In a significant operation, security forces engaged in an encounter with Naxal insurgents in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, resulting in the demise of six Naxalites, including the notable figure "deputy commander" Punem Nagesh and his wife. The encounter, occurring near Chipurbhatti village under the Basaguda police station area, was executed as part of an anti-Naxal operation following intelligence reports indicating the presence of insurgents linked to Maoists PLGA platoons no. 9 and 10.

Led by a joint team comprising District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalions, and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), the operation commenced at around 8 am in the dense jungles along the Talperu River. The encounter ensued for approximately an hour, during which the security personnel came under fire, resulting in a fatal confrontation with the Naxalites.

Among the seized items from the encounter site were a variety of arms and ammunition, including firearms such as a carbine gun and pistols, along with explosive devices and essential supplies utilized by the insurgents. The successful operation marks another milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat Naxal insurgency in the Bastar region.

The six deceased Naxalites, identified as Punem Nagesh, Vetti Soni, Aaytu Punem, Sukka Oyam, Nuppo Moka, and Kovasi Gangi, were reportedly involved in numerous incidents, including the Tekalgudiyam attack in 2021 and the recent murder of three villagers near Basaguda. Their elimination represents a significant setback for Naxal forces operating in the region.

Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, where the encounter took place, is slated for elections in the upcoming general elections in Chhattisgarh, underscoring the strategic significance of such operations in maintaining security and stability in the region.
