A paramilitary official who is charged with sexual harassment may be fired

The Union government has initiated the process of dismissing Deputy Inspector General Khajan Singh, a former chief sports officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), following charges of sexual harassment levelled against him by some women working in the paramilitary force. Official sources disclosed on Friday that a notice for dismissal has been issued against Singh after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) accepted the recommendation of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Singh, who is currently posted in Mumbai, has been given 15 days to respond to the notice. The action follows a probe conducted by the CRPF, which found him "guilty" of sexual harassment charges. The CRPF headquarters accepted the probe report and forwarded it to the UPSC and MHA for further disciplinary action, resulting in the issuance of dismissal orders against Singh.

While Singh did not respond to queries from PTI, he had previously denied the allegations, stating that they were "absolutely false" and aimed at tarnishing his reputation. The officer faces at least two such charges, with the notice for dismissal issued in one case, while the other case is still under investigation.

Khajan Singh, a former athlete who won a silver medal at the 1986 Seoul Asian Games, served as the chief sports officer of the CRPF, overseeing various sports-related activities within the force. The CRPF, which has a significant female presence, first inducted women in combat roles in 1986 and currently maintains six all-female battalions along with women personnel in sports and administrative wings.
