BJP flags Amit Shah's edited video on eliminating reservations, and a formal complaint is lodged

The Delhi Police has taken action following a complaint lodged by the BJP regarding a "doctored video" of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The party alleged that the video, which purportedly showed Shah advocating for the abolition of reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST), was manipulated.

According to the BJP, the original video featured Amit Shah discussing the removal of what he termed as the "unconstitutional" 4 percent reservation for Muslims in Telangana. The video was allegedly edited to falsely portray Shah as advocating for the termination of reservation for SC/ST communities.

In response to these allegations, the Delhi Police has reached out to X and Facebook, seeking information about the account responsible for posting the edited video. The complaint has sparked controversy on social media platforms, with various handles, including official Congress state units, sharing the video and accusing the BJP of intending to end SC/ST reservation.

The BJP has strongly refuted these claims, labeling the video as fake and warning of potential violence due to its dissemination. Amit Malviya, a prominent BJP leader, accused the Congress of spreading the edited video and emphasized the need for legal action against those responsible.

Reflecting the seriousness of the matter, a senior BJP official has stated that complaints are pouring in from across the country, and efforts will be made to ensure that FIRs are filed in each case.

This incident harks back to Amit Shah's remarks during the run-up to the 2023 assembly elections in Telangana, where he criticized the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in the state, labeling it as unconstitutional. Shah had pledged that if BJP came to power, this reservation would be revoked and redistributed to SC, ST, and OBC communities.
