In new violence in Manipur's Koubru area, one person was murdered and three injured

In the tense region of Leimakhong-Kangchup, Manipur, violence erupted in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in casualties. During the clashes, one Kuki Zo 'village volunteer' lost his life, while three others sustained injuries in the Koubru Hill range area.

The conflict escalated with a gunfight breaking out around 2:35 am, leading to further violence among armed individuals. In response to the unrest, the Community on Tribal Unity (CoTU) declared a 12-hour total shutdown from noon on April 28 until midnight, covering the entire Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district.

These clashes occurred just a day after a separate incident in which armed militants attacked Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the Naransena area of Manipur's Bishnupur district. During this attack, which took place between midnight and 2:15 am on Saturday, two CRPF personnel were killed, and two others were injured when a bomb exploded inside the security forces' outpost.

The deceased personnel were identified as CRPF Sub-Inspector N Sarkar and Head Constable Arup Saini. The recent escalation of violence underscores the ongoing challenges faced in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
