IPL2024: Travis Head destroys DC in the powerplay and reaches a joint-fastest fifty by an SRH batter

In the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Travis Head showcased a scintillating display of batting prowess, smashing the joint-fastest fifty by an SRH batter in IPL history. The left-handed batsman achieved this remarkable feat off just 16 balls, equalling the record set by Abhishek Sharma in a match against Mumbai Indians last month at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Head's exceptional performance continued his impressive form throughout the tournament. Previously, he had displayed his batting prowess by hitting an 18-ball half-century against Mumbai Indians, breaking the record set by David Warner. However, in the same match, Abhishek Sharma surpassed Head's record.

Head's impactful innings were not limited to quickfire fifties; in another match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he played a pivotal role in guiding SRH to their highest team total of 287 by smashing the fourth-fastest hundred in IPL history off just 39 balls.

In the match against DC, SRH further etched their name in the record books by setting the highest team score in the powerplay, amassing a staggering 125 runs off just 6 overs. Alongside Head, Abhishek Sharma also displayed aggressive batting, contributing significantly to SRH's dominant start.

The opening duo formed a formidable partnership, putting on 131 runs for the first wicket in just 6.2 overs before Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek's explosive innings saw him score 46 runs off 12 balls, including 2 fours and 6 sixes.

Despite Head's eventual dismissal after scoring 89 runs off 32 balls, including 11 fours and 6 sixes, his electrifying innings had already made a significant impact, providing SRH with a commanding position in the match.
