Is Virat Kohli out of the KKR vs. RCB match? The waist-high no-ball rule explained

Virat Kohli found himself in the midst of controversy during RCB's chase against KKR at Eden Gardens in IPL 2024, when he was dismissed in the 3rd over of their pursuit of 223. Kohli's frustration was palpable as he was deceived by a slower-ball full toss from Harshit Rana, leading to a caught and bowled dismissal.

The incident sparked debate, with many arguing that the delivery should have been deemed a waist-high no-ball. Kohli's dismissal left him visibly agitated, as he contested the decision with the on-field umpires and expressed his frustration at the third umpire's call.

However, replays indicated that Kohli was standing outside the popping crease, and the ball-tracking technology showed that the delivery would have passed below his waist height had he been within the crease. This aligns with ICC regulations, which deem deliveries above the waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease as unfair.

Despite the setback of Kohli's dismissal, RCB remained in contention thanks to fifties from Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks, who kept their chase alive in the 223-run target at Eden Gardens.
