The father of the accused Karnataka murderer apologizes, saying the victim was like my daughter

Baba Saheb Subani, the father of Fayaz, who stands accused of the tragic incident involving the demise of his former classmate Neha at BVB College campus in Hubballi, Karnataka, expressed profound remorse and extended heartfelt apologies to Neha's grieving family. Emphasizing the gravity of his son's actions, he stressed the necessity for a punishment that would serve as a deterrent against such heinous acts in the future.

Speaking on Saturday, Baba Saheb Subani, a dedicated educator, conveyed his profound sorrow, stating, "Fayaz should face a punishment that dissuades anyone from committing such atrocities in the future. I extend my sincere apologies to Neha's family, for she was like a daughter to me."

Subani recounted the moment of shock and disbelief upon learning of his son's involvement in the tragic incident, which transpired on Thursday evening. He revealed that approximately eight months ago, Neha's family had reached out to inform him about Fayaz's troubling behavior towards their daughter. According to Subani, Fayaz and Neha had been in a relationship, and despite Fayaz's desire to marry her, he had respectfully declined the proposition.

Furthermore, Fayaz's father disclosed that he and his wife had been residing separately for the past six years, with Fayaz primarily residing with his mother. He recalled his last conversation with his son, which occurred approximately three months prior.

In a poignant plea for forgiveness, Baba Saheb Subani beseeched the people of Karnataka and the residents of Munavalli, his hometown, expressing deep remorse for the stain cast upon their community by his son's actions. With a heavy heart and folded hands, he implored for clemency, acknowledging the shame brought upon his family and town.

Neha, the daughter of Congress Corporator Niranjan Hiremath, was a first-year Masters of Computer Applications (MCA) student at BVB College. The accused, Fayaz, was identified as Neha's ex-classmate, and CCTV footage captured the harrowing moment when he fatally attacked her with a knife before fleeing the scene.

While Fayaz's mother Mumtaz claimed that her son and Neha were romantically involved, Niranjan Hiremath refuted these claims, asserting that Neha had consistently rebuffed Fayaz's advances. Hiremath reiterated his daughter's firm stance against Fayaz's proposals and her repeated warnings of legal action if his harassment persisted.

Neha's family, alleging that Fayaz's violent actions were spurred by her rejection of his advances, is advocating for the harshest possible punishment, including the death penalty. However, during police interrogation, Fayaz maintained that he was in a relationship with Neha, although she had begun avoiding him in recent times.
