Mohammedan Sporting concludes their first ISL season without a home victory

Mohammedan Sporting ended their debut Indian Super League (ISL) season without a home win, but they fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Punjab FC on Monday. Despite trailing by two goals, the Kolkata-based side produced an impressive second-half performance to salvage a point.

Punjab FC took an early lead through Ezequiel Vidal, who found the net in the ninth minute after receiving a well-timed pass from Asmir Suljic. The visitors extended their advantage in the 53rd minute when Vidal set up Luka Majcen with a sharp through ball. A defensive miscue by Zodingliana Ralte allowed Majcen to capitalize, placing his shot into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.

However, Mohammedan responded swiftly. Just five minutes later, Manvir Singh delivered a dangerous cross from the left flank, leading to a crowded scramble in the box. Amid the chaos, Marc Schmerbock reacted quickly and slotted the ball into the net to reduce the deficit.

Mohammedan Sporting pressed forward with the momentum shifting, and their persistence paid off in the 66th minute. Franca made a driving run from midfield, attracting multiple Punjab FC defenders before slipping a perfectly timed pass to Robi Hansda. Hansda made no mistake, smashing the ball into the high centre of the goal to bring the score level at 2-2.

Despite their spirited fightback, Mohammedan finished the season with 13 points from 24 games, failing to secure a home victory. Meanwhile, Punjab FC wrapped up their campaign with 28 points, including eight wins and four draws.
