Actor Rajkummar Rao is in talks to replace Aamir Khan in the upcoming biopic based on the life of Ujjwal Nikam, a prominent Indian public prosecutor. Initially, Aamir was attached to the project to portray Nikam, but now he will shift his role to co-producing the film alongside Dinesh Vijan, known for producing films like Munjya and Stree.
According to a source close to the production, Dinesh Vijan is eager to have Rajkummar play the lead role, citing his intense acting range and suitability for the character. Preliminary discussions have been positive, and the team is working on adjusting the script to better suit Rajkummar's style. The film is expected to take a more grounded and realistic approach, focusing on courtroom drama and political undertones, highlighting Nikam's significant contributions to the Indian legal system.
Rajkummar Rao is currently busy preparing for a Vikramaditya Motwane project where he plays a sportsman, which is physically and emotionally demanding. The filmmakers will need to coordinate his schedule for both projects.
The biopic will delve into Ujjwal Nikam’s illustrious career, where he became famous for handling major legal cases like the 1993 Bombay Blasts, 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the Gulshan Kumar murder case, among others. Nikam's sharp courtroom presence and legal expertise earned him the Padma Shri in 2016.
