Nothing is finally turning its futuristic headphone concept into reality. Back in 2022, CEO Carl Pei teased the “Crazy cool Nothing Head (1)” design created by Yanko Design, and now the company has confirmed it will launch its first over-ear headphones this year, likely in summer 2025.
In a behind-the-scenes video released on Nothing’s official YouTube channel, designers expressed their frustration with existing headphone designs, saying they “don’t like a single one” on the market. They emphasized making the new headphones intuitive and simple to use, with improved button interactions and a design that “says something about you.”
Positioned as rivals to premium models like Apple’s AirPods Max and Sony’s WH-1000XM6, Nothing promises these headphones will deliver excellent sound quality without the “really expensive” price tag. One team member even confidently claimed the new headphones might sound better than AirPods Max. The company also plans to involve its community for feedback to refine the final product.
A key highlight is Nothing’s collaboration with British audio brand KEF, which will co-engineer the headphones. This partnership marks Nothing’s push into new audio categories, with multiple co-engineered products expected later this year.
The summer 2025 launch fits Nothing’s typical mid-year release cycle and could coincide with the rumored launch of the Nothing Phone (3) in July. If both devices debut around the same time, it would create a cohesive ecosystem, strengthening Nothing’s brand presence with a seamless audio and smartphone experience—though official confirmation on dates is still pending.
In short, Nothing’s first over-ear headphones are shaping up to be a stylish, well-designed, and competitively priced alternative in the premium wireless audio market, backed by KEF’s audio expertise.
