Samsung is implementing new battery technology, and the Galaxy S26 might debut with it

Samsung is reportedly planning a significant battery upgrade that might debut with its upcoming Galaxy S26 series. According to a fresh leak reported by The Elec, Samsung is set to adopt a new battery technology called SUS CAN, which uses stainless steel to reinforce the internal structure of the battery. This move aims to increase battery capacity in a compact space, enable faster charging, and reduce long-term issues like battery swelling — a problem that has subtly affected some older Galaxy models.

Interestingly, this stainless steel-based battery tech is already in use with Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max, signaling Samsung’s strategic move to stay competitive in the premium smartphone space. However, due to cost and manufacturing complexities, this upgrade will likely be limited initially to flagship models, with the Galaxy S26 being the prime candidate for this innovation.

Samsung has faced criticism for sticking with older battery designs while competitors like OnePlus have introduced phones with larger batteries in slimmer profiles (for example, the OnePlus 13T sports a 6,200mAh battery). In comparison, the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge features a comparatively smaller battery.

Beyond the battery tech, rumors also suggest Samsung might discontinue the Galaxy S26 Plus and replace it with the S26 Edge model. The current S25 lineup includes four models (S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra, and S25 Edge), but this could change with the 2026 generation.

As with all leaks, these details aren’t officially confirmed yet, so it’s best to keep a cautious eye on official announcements. For ongoing updates, following trusted tech news sources like India Today Tech is a good idea.
