Will step down if Himanta Sarma intensifies his accusation against Gaurav Gogoi on behalf of Pakistan

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reignited a political storm by alleging that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), claiming Gogoi visited Pakistan at the ISI’s invitation and even received training there. Sarma doubled down on his claims during a public address, stating:

Gaurav Gogoi had gone to Pakistan on the invitation of ISI… We have that document. He stayed there for 15 days without informing the authorities.”

Sarma further alleged that Gogoi’s wife had ties with the Pakistan Army and was receiving a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while working in India. He vowed to resign as Chief Minister if any of his claims are proven false, a statement that significantly escalates the seriousness of the allegations.

The CM also linked Gogoi’s alleged foreign visit to his political stance, noting:

“He opposed the Rafale deal after returning from Pakistan. If this is not spying, then what is?”

These comments come in the wake of ongoing national security concerns, including recent arrests of suspected ISI-linked individuals like YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, and a wider counter-espionage crackdown.

In response, Gaurav Gogoi categorically denied the allegations, calling them “nonsense” and “absurd.” He accused the Chief Minister of deflecting from pressing issues and described the attacks as personal and obsessive:

“I am worried about the health of the Chief Minister… He has made baseless claims for over 13 years. The latest one borders on insanity.”

“The script the CM is following is worse than a B-grade film. He keeps lying to cover more lies.”

Gogoi also challenged Sarma to produce evidence, stressing that such serious accusations demand substantiation. He implied that the Chief Minister’s rhetoric is a politically motivated distraction and said the people of Assam would ensure Sarma “gets some rest” after the 2026 state elections, suggesting a political challenge in the future.

Sarma has promised to reveal documentary proof by September 10, raising anticipation about whether the claims are substantiated or politically charged. As of now, no official documents or proof have been made public to support the CM’s assertions.
