A woman from Indore was caught for the death of her husband after she vanished in Meghalaya

The case of the missing Indore woman, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has taken a shocking turn, as she has now been arrested for the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The arrest marks a major breakthrough in a case that initially appeared to be a mysterious disappearance but has now been revealed as a premeditated murder.

Key Developments:

  • Sonam Raghuvanshi was arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after she made a phone call to her family, which ultimately led to her location being traced by the Indore Police in coordination with Ghazipur authorities.

  • A police team from Indore is on its way to Ghazipur to bring her back for further investigation.

  • Raja Raghuvanshi's decomposed body was found on June 2 in a deep gorge in the Sohra (Cherrapunjee) region of Meghalaya. The couple had been reported missing since May 23.

  • Their rented scooter was discovered abandoned far from its designated parking area, a clue that raised suspicions.

  • According to Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang, Sonam is accused of planning the murder and hiring contract killers. So far, four people have been arrested — Sonam and three alleged assailants from Madhya Pradesh. One more suspect is still absconding.

Investigation Highlights:

  • A local tourist guide provided a crucial tip, revealing the couple was last seen in the company of three unidentified men, which shifted the focus of the investigation toward foul play.

  • The police believe this was a premeditated conspiracy involving external help rather than a crime of passion or accident.

Political and Public Reaction:

  • Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma praised the Meghalaya Police for their quick action and success in solving the case, posting on X (formerly Twitter):

"Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved... Well done Meghalaya Police."

Context:

This incident has shocked the public not only due to the gruesome nature of the crime but also because it unfolded during what was supposed to be a joyful honeymoon. The case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in remote areas like Sohra and the critical role of inter-state police coordination.

Further updates are expected once the Indore Police take custody of Sonam Raghuvanshi and question her in detail. Investigators will now focus on uncovering the motive, financial links, and the sequence of events that led to the murder.
