Day 2 box office receipts for Housefull 5: Akshay's film is off to a great start, surpassing Rs 50 crore

‘Housefull 5’ has kicked off its run at the Indian box office with impressive momentum. The comedy entertainer, featuring a star-studded cast led by Akshay Kumar alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, and Sanjay Dutt, released on June 6 and immediately outpaced the previous films in the franchise. The opening day saw strong earnings of around Rs 24 crore.

What grabbed the industry’s attention was the significant 25% jump in collections on Day 2, with the film pulling in approximately Rs 30 crore nett, according to Sacnilk.com. This pushed the cumulative total past the Rs 50 crore mark on just the second day, reaching an estimated Rs 54 crore. For context, the predecessor ‘Housefull 4’ crossed Rs 50 crore only on its third day.

Day 2 also saw a healthy Hindi occupancy rate of 37.97%, with the night shows drawing the largest crowds. The film’s opening day numbers have also surpassed Akshay Kumar’s earlier 2025 release ‘Sky Force’ (Rs 11.50 crore nett) and last year’s hit ‘Fighter’ (Rs 22.50 crore nett).

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, ‘Housefull 5’ boasts an ensemble lineup including Riteish Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, and more, adding to its commercial appeal.

However, critical reception highlights mixed feelings. India Today Digital points out that while the film delivers as a commercial entertainer, the comedy often veers into cringe territory with humor that some may find uncomfortable, citing jokes that rely on insensitive stereotypes and artificial laughs. This suggests the film’s style of humor might not resonate with all audiences despite its box office success.

In sum, ‘Housefull 5’ is off to a flying start commercially, combining strong star power and audience turnout, even as its comedic approach draws divided opinions.
