Fans of Aamir Khan are in for a heartfelt surprise as his mother, Zeenat Khan, and sister, Nikhat Khan, will appear on screen in Sitaare Zameen Par. While Nikhat, a professional actor, will be playing a character with several scenes, this marks the very first time that Aamir’s mother will be seen in a film.
In a recent group interview in Mumbai, Aamir shared the touching story behind his mother’s cameo. Traditionally, Zeenat Khan has never accompanied him to shoots, but on the morning of a joyful wedding song shoot, she surprised him by calling to say she wanted to come. His sister brought her in a wheelchair to the set, and she watched them film with joy.
The film’s director, RS Prasanna, moved by the occasion, asked Aamir if his mother could be included as a guest in the wedding sequence. Initially hesitant and unsure if his “ziddi” (stubborn) mother would agree, Aamir finally asked her—and to his amazement, she said yes. She appears briefly in one or two shots, making this the only film featuring her to date. Aamir expressed how special this was for him, especially as she is about to turn 91 on June 13, just a week before the film’s release.
As for his sister Nikhat Khan, Aamir mentioned this is their first film collaboration, and given her acting background, they might work together again.
The film stars Genelia Deshmukh alongside Aamir and introduces 10 neurodivergent actors, including Aroush Datta and Samvit Desai. It’s a remake of the Spanish sports drama Champions (2018).
’Sitaare Zameen Par’ is set to release on June 20, 2025.
