According to reports, Liverpool completed a record deal to acquire Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen

Liverpool have broken the British transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a stunning deal worth €116.5 million (approx. £98.5 million), signaling their intent to dominate both domestically and in Europe under new manager Arne Slot.

The deal includes:

  • €100 million upfront

  • €16.5 million in performance-based bonuses

If those bonuses are triggered, it will surpass the previous record set by Chelsea's £115 million signing of Moisés Caicedo, making Wirtz the most expensive player in British football history.

🔴 Wirtz to Liverpool: What It Means

  • Premier League champions Liverpool are building a new identity under Arne Slot, and Wirtz appears central to that vision.

  • The 22-year-old is regarded as one of Europe's most gifted midfielders, with strong technical ability, playmaking vision, and maturity well beyond his years.

  • Liverpool beat Manchester City and Bayern Munich to his signature. While City dropped out due to financial concerns, Wirtz reportedly favored a move to Anfield over a return to Germany with Bayern.

🧠 Player Profile: Florian Wirtz

  • 2023–24 Bundesliga:

    • 25 starts

    • 10 goals

    • 12 assists

  • A key figure in Leverkusen's resurgence, he was the creative force behind their attacking transitions and midfield control.

  • Recently scored for Germany in the UEFA Nations League semi-final, further cementing his reputation on the international stage.

🏆 Liverpool’s Ambition

  • Having reclaimed the Premier League title this season, Liverpool are now setting their sights on European glory, especially after a disappointing Champions League exit to PSG in the Round of 16.

  • The Wirtz signing, along with the recent capture of Jermie Frimpong (also from Leverkusen), reflects a bold transfer policy shift as they prepare for life without Trent Alexander-Arnold, who recently joined Real Madrid.

🔄 Liverpool’s Transfer Milestones

  • Wirtz now surpasses Darwin Núñez’s £85 million deal (2022) as the club’s record signing.

  • Signals a broader shift in the Premier League, where Liverpool — not City or Chelsea — are making the most aggressive moves early in the transfer window.

📅 What’s Next

  • Medical scheduled for next week

  • Personal terms already agreed — no issues expected

  • Wirtz will join up with Liverpool's preseason tour in July, assuming no delays.

Bottom line: With the signing of Florian Wirtz, Liverpool have sent a clear message to Europe — they are not just back on top of English football, they’re building to stay there.
