After receiving criticism for her haunting comment, Kajol declares Ramoji Film City safe

Actor Kajol recently found herself at the center of controversy after referring to Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City as "haunted" during a promotional interview for her upcoming film Maa. Facing backlash, Kajol has now issued a public clarification, calling Ramoji Film City a "great destination" and "absolutely safe for families and children."

On Monday, Kajol took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation. In her statement, she wrote that her earlier comment was made in a casual context and not meant to offend anyone. She emphasized her long-standing connection with Ramoji Film City, having worked on multiple projects there and staying at the location several times. She praised its professionalism and the enjoyment it offers to tourists.

Kajol clarified, "I have filmed multiple projects at Ramoji Film City and stayed there many times over the years. I have always found it to be a very professional environment for filmmaking... It’s a great destination and absolutely safe."

The controversy began when, in an interview with Galatta India, Kajol shared that she has sometimes felt uneasy at certain locations during shoots. When asked directly about negative energy, she admitted to having such experiences and specifically mentioned Ramoji Film City as a place widely believed to be haunted. She said, “A prime example is Ramoji Rao Studios in Hyderabad, which is considered one of the most haunted places in the world. I am lucky enough not to have seen anything, though.”

Her comments did not go down well with some fans and social media users, prompting her clarification to calm the backlash.

Maa, directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, and Kumar Mangat Pathak, is set to release in theatres on June 27.
