Carlos Alcaraz is heading into Wimbledon 2025 with burning ambition and historic stakes. The 22-year-old Spaniard, already a two-time Wimbledon champion, has a golden opportunity to join an elite group of legends — Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic — by completing a Wimbledon three-peat.
Alcaraz, speaking confidently to the media on Saturday, made it clear that his focus is squarely on winning, not records:
"I'm coming here thinking that I really want to win the title, I really want to lift the trophy, not thinking about how many players have won three Wimbledons in a row."
Despite his young age, Alcaraz has already proven his mettle on grass. He famously defeated Novak Djokovic in last year’s final, denying the Serbian great a shot at another Slam. Now, with a French Open title and a HSBC Championships win this season — both secured after his recovery from injury — Alcaraz enters Wimbledon on a 10-match winning streak and full of momentum.
He also spoke of his love for the grass-court aesthetic and style:
"It's just pretty to me because I really want to hit slices, dropshots, go to the net all the time and play aggressively. I think on grass it’s the style that you have to play."
Alcaraz's first-round match is set against Fabio Fognini of Italy on Monday, June 30, where he will begin his quest for a third straight Wimbledon crown.
While he’s downplaying talk of history, make no mistake — Alcaraz is on the brink of cementing his legacy. And with his confidence, versatility, and attacking grass-court game, he may very well write another golden chapter in the Wimbledon archives.
