FASTag yearly pass for Rs 3,000: How to sign up, the entire procedure, its validity, and more

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a new FASTag annual plan aimed at improving convenience at toll plazas and cutting down costs for vehicle owners. This optional scheme, starting from August 15, 2025, applies only to private non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans.

Under this plan, users can recharge with a minimum of ₹3,000, which will be valid for either 200 trips or one year—whichever comes first. Once this limit is reached, the pass automatically switches back to the regular FASTag system. If someone completes the 200 trips early, they can instantly buy a new annual pass. It’s not mandatory—people can still use FASTag as they do now, paying tolls at regular rates.

One of the main highlights of this new system is the cost-saving aspect. Gadkari mentioned that users could save at least ₹7,000 per year, with the average cost per toll plaza trip dropping to ₹15. For open toll plazas, each crossing counts as one trip, while return journeys count separately. In closed toll systems, a full journey (entry and exit) will be counted as a single trip.

The pass is non-transferable and tied to the vehicle’s registration. Users must activate it through the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website, ensuring the FASTag is valid, correctly affixed, and not blacklisted. After eligibility is confirmed and the ₹3,000 payment is made, users will receive SMS confirmation of activation.

Importantly, the government may revise the price each year starting April 1, meaning users should expect potential annual fee adjustments.
