Liam Neeson is stepping into comedy territory with the reboot of the iconic The Naked Gun franchise, and the first trailer—released by Paramount Pictures—delivers a hilarious blend of nostalgia, absurdity, and fast-paced action. Neeson plays Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the bumbling yet fearless son of the late Frank Drebin Sr., the beloved character originally played by Leslie Nielsen.
The trailer opens with a heartfelt yet ridiculous scene: Drebin Jr. kneels solemnly before a portrait of his father, vowing to make him proud. The camera pans to other detectives paying similar tribute—until a younger officer balks at saluting a portrait of Nordberg, a cheeky nod to the fall from grace of O.J. Simpson, who played the character in the original films.
Joining Neeson is Pamela Anderson, who plays his love interest, marking her return to big-screen comedy after 2024’s The Last Showgirl. The trailer also teases surprise cameos by rapper Busta Rhymes and WWE star Cody Rhodes, injecting additional star power and irreverence.
The reboot carries the trademark chaos of the original: car chases, wildly unnecessary explosions, office antics, and laugh-out-loud physical comedy. True to the franchise’s spirit, The Naked Gun pokes fun at modern action tropes, including a parody of Mission: Impossible-style stunts and Neeson’s own tough-guy image.
Directed by Akiva Schaffer (Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers) and produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins, the film is penned by Schaffer along with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. The supporting cast features Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston.
Paramount Pictures India will release The Naked Gun in theatres on August 1, 2025.
