Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the brink of breaking a major Test record and surpassing Indian legends like Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag. The young opener currently has 1798 runs from 36 innings in 19 Tests, averaging 52.88 with 4 centuries and 10 fifties.
If Jaiswal scores 202 runs in his next three innings, he will reach 2000 Test runs in 39 innings or fewer, making him the fastest Indian to reach the milestone. Both Dravid and Sehwag achieved it in 40 innings.
The upcoming England series is critical. Conditions will be challenging—especially for openers—due to the swing and seam movement. Jaiswal didn’t have a strong warm-up phase, scoring only one fifty across four innings against England Lions.
Still, his overseas record offers hope. In the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, Jaiswal finished as India’s second-highest run scorer with 391 runs in 10 innings, including a century and two fifties.
He will open alongside KL Rahul, who has shown good form in the warm-up games with a century against England Lions and a fifty in the intra-squad match.
All eyes will now be on Jaiswal as he begins the series with a chance to not just set a new record—but to further cement his place among India’s modern Test greats.
