R. Madhavan recently opened up about one of the toughest scenes he had to shoot in the supernatural horror film Shaitaan. In a candid conversation with Kajol on JioStudios’ YouTube channel for her upcoming film Maa, Madhavan revealed how emotionally taxing the urination scene was for him.
The sequence involved his character forcing his daughter to dance relentlessly, which leads to her wetting herself due to exhaustion and physical strain. Madhavan described it as a “very sensitive scene” that made him feel quite disgusted. To cope, he wrapped himself in a blanket and deliberately avoided looking at the child actor during the shoot. This allowed him to emotionally distance himself while staying true to the character, even telling the mother on set, “Can you go help your daughter?”
He admitted there were many such uncomfortable moments throughout filming but emphasized the importance of finding ways to maintain authenticity while protecting his own emotional well-being.
Shaitaan, directed by Vikas Bahl, is the Hindi adaptation of the 2023 Gujarati film Vash. The story revolves around a family held hostage by a mysterious man who uses witchcraft to control their daughter’s mind. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Jyothika, and Janki Bodiwala alongside Madhavan.
Kajol’s upcoming film Maa is a mythological-horror spin-off of Shaitaan, with both films produced by Devgn Films.
