President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that the United States had conducted coordinated airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—in what marks a significant turning point in the ongoing Middle East conflict. This operation signals the first direct US military action against Iran in this current crisis, and comes after more than a week of escalating Israeli strikes on Iran’s air defense systems and missile bases.
The mission, reportedly involving B2 stealth bombers, was aimed at severely damaging Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Trump, in a post on Truth Social, declared the operation a “very successful” one, adding that all aircraft had exited Iranian airspace safely after dropping a full payload on the heavily fortified Fordow facility. Natanz and Isfahan were also targeted as part of the strike package.
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran... All planes are safely on their way home,” Trump posted, emphasizing the mission’s completion and effectiveness. The US government had reportedly made last-minute diplomatic contact with Iran on Saturday, stating that the strike was limited in nature and not intended to topple the regime. However, Tehran has dismissed the attack as a bluff, with state television stating, “Trump usually bluffs... Iran’s nuclear industry cannot be destroyed by bombing.”
Shortly after making the announcement, Trump revealed plans to address the nation at 10:00 PM ET, calling it a “historic moment” not just for the US and Israel, but for the entire world. “IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR,” he declared, striking a tone that blended triumph with a demand for de-escalation.
In Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lauded Trump’s decision, calling it a “pivotal moment” in the effort to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “President Trump acted to deny the world’s most dangerous regime the world’s most dangerous weapons,” Netanyahu said in a televised statement. “Tonight, President Trump and the United States acted with great strength... The people of Israel thank you. The forces of civilisation thank you.”
Israel has long urged the US to use its unique capabilities—particularly its stealth bombers and 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs—to neutralize deeply buried nuclear sites like Fordow, which lie beyond the reach of conventional munitions. Sunday night’s operation marks the first use of such firepower against Iran in the present confrontation.
While Israeli leaders are hailing the mission as a milestone, Iran’s response remains uncertain. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stark warning earlier, stating that any US involvement would be “very, very dangerous,” and rejected the idea of diplomacy while “our people are under bombardment.”
As the world watches, tensions remain high across the region. With Iran reportedly launching retaliatory missile barrages into several areas of Israel in response to the airstrikes, both countries remain on edge. The Israeli Defence Forces have asked citizens to take shelter, and the situation continues to evolve rapidly.
The global community is now bracing for the next phase in what could become one of the most consequential military confrontations in the Middle East in decades.
