Upcoming missions: Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker of Dune, is directing a new James Bond movie

Director Denis Villeneuve has officially been chosen by Amazon MGM Studios to helm the next James Bond film. Villeneuve expressed that it is both an honour and a major responsibility to take charge of such an iconic franchise, stating that he intends to respect its legacy while paving the way for new missions.

In a statement, Villeneuve said he is thrilled to return 007 to the big screen alongside producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman. The studio's head, Mike Hopkins, called Villeneuve a "cinematic master," citing his ability to create compelling worlds and immersive stories, as seen in films like Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, and the Dune series.

Amy Pascal and David Heyman will co-produce the film, with Tanya Lapointe as executive producer. In their joint statement, Pascal and Heyman described Villeneuve as a lifelong Bond fan, saying, “It was always his dream to make this movie, and now it’s ours too.”

The next Bond installment is still in early development, with no actor yet announced for the lead role. Meanwhile, Villeneuve is currently focused on Dune: Messiah, set for release in 2026.
