At the Singapore airport, an Indian man is arrested after stealing bags and makeup valued at Rs 3.5 lakh

An Indian man has been arrested in Singapore for allegedly stealing perfumes, bags, and cosmetics worth nearly ₹3.5 lakh from 14 shops at Jewel Changi Airport. The incident came to light on May 29, when a missing bag was discovered during a routine inventory check at a retail store, prompting an immediate police report. Authorities later identified the suspect as a 38-year-old Indian national, but he had already left Singapore.

When he returned on June 1, he was arrested in transit at the airport. Police have stated he is expected to face charges of theft and fraudulent possession of property on July 2.

This case is not isolated. In April, another Indian national, Singh Sagar, 37, was arrested for allegedly stealing items worth ₹1.14 lakh from five shops at Changi Airport’s Terminal 3, including jewellery, stationery, chocolates, and a power bank from WH Smith.

In a separate case in India, a Brazilian national, Ravi Gama Disa, allegedly stole two luxury watches valued at over ₹3 lakh from the Ethos Duty-Free store at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on January 4. A police case was registered following the incident.

These incidents highlight the increasing concern over thefts at international airports, prompting heightened surveillance and stricter security measures.
