Bill Gates, the former CEO of Microsoft, is no longer among the top 10 richest people in the world

Bill Gates is no longer one of the world’s 10 richest people. As of July 8, 2025, he ranks 12th on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a net worth of $124 billion.

He is now behind Michael Dell ($137 billion) and Steve Ballmer ($172 billion), his former Microsoft teammate.

The reason for Gates’s drop isn’t bad investments — it’s his charity work. Bloomberg recently adjusted his wealth to account for his large donations. About $52 billion was deducted from his total. Gates and his ex-wife Melinda have already donated over $60 billion to the Gates Foundation.

The foundation plans to spend another $200 billion by 2045 and then shut down.

Who’s the richest now?

  1. Elon Musk – $346 billion

  2. Mark Zuckerberg – $253 billion

  3. Larry Ellison – $248 billion

  4. Jeff Bezos – $244 billion

  5. Steve Ballmer – $172 billion

  6. Larry Page – $160 billion

  7. Bernard Arnault – $157 billion

  8. Sergey Brin – $150 billion

  9. Warren Buffett – $144 billion

  10. Jensen Huang – $138 billion

  11. Michael Dell – $137 billion

  12. Bill Gates – $124 billion

Even though he’s dropped in the rankings, Gates remains one of the world’s biggest and most influential philanthropists.
