At Wimbledon 2025, Jack Draper’s exit marked another major upset, as he lost to veteran Marin Cilic in four sets—6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4—in a match that lasted two hours and 39 minutes. For Cilic, this victory was particularly emotional, given his long comeback from knee surgeries in 2023 and 2024. Now 36, Cilic has reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2022 and claimed his 38th career top-10 win, a testament to his enduring grit and commitment.
Draper admitted to being disappointed with his grass-court form this season. Reflecting on his run to the semifinals at the HSBC Championships, where he lost to Jiri Lehecka, Draper said:
“I wasn’t feeling too great at Queen’s. I don’t know how I made the semis there… this year I really struggled on the grass.”
“Huge serve… I tried to return as many balls as possible. I struggled a bit to close it out. But I’m very happy.”
Sinner will next face Pedro Martinez, who overcame Mariano Navone 7-5, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) in the second round.
In the women’s singles, Iga Swiatek rallied from a set down to defeat Caty McNally 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. She will face Danielle Collins in the third round, after Collins beat Veronika Erjavec 6-4, 6-1.
From India, N. Sriram Balaji, partnering Miguel Reyes-Varela of Mexico, advanced to the second round of men’s doubles, defeating Learner Tien and Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-4. They will next meet Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.
