Due to diplomatic issues, Team India is unlikely to visit Bangladesh for a white-ball series: References

India’s six-match white-ball tour of Bangladesh has effectively been called off amid escalating diplomatic tensions between the two nations. A senior source informed India Today that the Indian government has advised the BCCI against going ahead with the tour, citing concerns over the political climate in Bangladesh.

The decision stems from growing trade-related friction. On May 17, India imposed restrictions on the import of ready-made garments and processed food items from Bangladesh through northeast-based Integrated Check Posts (ICPs). This action is widely interpreted as a reciprocal response to a similar ban Bangladesh had enforced in April.

A government source reportedly said:

“The political situation in Bangladesh is not stable, and in light of the diplomatic standoff, the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to go ahead with this tour.”

While an official announcement from the BCCI is still awaited, this development signals a major disruption to the Indian team’s white-ball preparations ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

The series was scheduled to include:

  • 3 ODIs

  • 3 T20Is
Starting from August 17, following India’s ongoing five-Test series in England, which concludes in early August.

This cancellation is a significant setback, especially for India’s T20I side, which has not played since their 4-1 series win over England in January-February 2025. It also affects Bangladesh, who were banking on high-quality opposition to gear up for their own World Cup plans.

After the now-cancelled Bangladesh tour, India’s next confirmed assignment remains a home Test series against the West Indies in October.
