The National Commission for Women (NCW) has once again summoned Birbhum Superintendent of Police Amandeep IPS after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing regarding alleged misconduct by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal.
The case involves serious allegations of verbal abuse against Bolpur police station inspector-in-charge Liton Halder, raising concerns about the dignity and safety of women, particularly family members of on-duty police officers.
SP Amandeep was originally asked to appear before the NCW in New Delhi on July 1. However, he responded on June 28, citing pressing law-and-order responsibilities and requested permission to attend virtually. In response, NCW issued a second notice on July 2, directing him to appear in person at its headquarters on July 14 at 12:00 PM.
Labeling the matter as one involving “grave allegations,” the NCW insisted on “the highest level of institutional accountability and transparency.” The Commission made it clear that no further extensions would be granted.
In the event that SP Amandeep is genuinely unable to attend due to exceptional, documented duties, the Commission has directed that either the Additional SP or the SDPO of Bolpur must appear in his place. The attending officer must carry all relevant documents, case records, and materials previously requested.
Sources indicate that this summons will be treated as the final opportunity for compliance. Any further failure to attend will be considered wilful obstruction of a statutory inquiry and may result in legal action under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990.
The NCW initiated its probe after reports of alleged verbal abuse by TMC leader Anubrata Mondal, raising questions over whether appropriate action was taken and whether the rights of women connected to the officer involved were adequately protected.
