Roger Federer predicts who will advance to the Wimbledon semifinals: Djokovic or Sinner

Swiss tennis great Roger Federer has shared his thoughts on the upcoming Wimbledon 2025 semifinal between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and veteran Novak Djokovic, expressing confidence in the Serbian to clinch the win in the high-profile face-off scheduled for Friday, July 11.

Federer made this prediction during a casual fan interaction, where he was unexpectedly asked to pick a winner. Initially hesitant, the eight-time Wimbledon champion eventually named Djokovic, though he acknowledged that Sinner’s recent form made him a tough opponent.

Sinner, 23, has been in excellent shape throughout the tournament and currently leads the ATP rankings. He secured his spot in the semifinals after Grigor Dimitrov was forced to retire during their Round of 16 clash due to a pectoral injury, with Sinner already ahead by two sets at that point.

Meanwhile, Djokovic, 38, is aiming for an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title. Although he has not displayed peak dominance in this tournament, he has fought his way to the semis. His quarterfinal match against Flavio Cobolli saw a moment of concern when he took a hard fall, but the 7-time Wimbledon champion recovered and progressed.

Looking at their head-to-head record, Sinner currently holds a slight edge over Djokovic at 5-4, having claimed victory in their last four meetings. However, all of those wins came on hard courts. On grass, Djokovic has the upper hand, notably defeating Sinner in straight sets in the 2023 Wimbledon semifinals.

Federer's endorsement of Djokovic carries weight, especially given Sinner’s recent surge. Still, Federer believes Djokovic's experience, mental toughness, and grass-court pedigree give him the upper hand in such a crucial match.

As the tennis world watches eagerly, this semifinal promises a compelling showdown between the sport’s present leader and a seasoned champion with history within reach.
