Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak praised Shubman Gill’s stunning form in England, saying it’s not captaincy but a change in mindset and technique that’s driving his success. Speaking ahead of the third Test at Lord’s, Kotak said Gill had shown this shift since Australia and has worked hard to make technical adjustments.
Gill, once criticised for his poor overseas record, now averages 45.79 in SENA countries, up from 25.70, after scoring 585 runs in just two Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. That includes a century in Leeds, a double hundred (269) and a 161 in the second Test, becoming the first batter to hit a double ton followed by a 150+ score in back-to-back innings.
Kotak emphasized Gill’s growing mental discipline, noting how he learned from a rash shot in the first Test and showed more patience later.
With Gill in red-hot form, India aim to take the lead in the third Test starting July 10 at Lord’s, as the young skipper eyes records set by Bradman and Gavaskar.
