Wimbledon: Yuki Bhambri, Rithvik Bollipalli, and Rohan Bopanna progress after Bopanna crashes out

At Wimbledon 2025, Indian tennis players had mixed results in the early rounds of the men’s and mixed doubles events:

  • Rohan Bopanna, paired with Sander Gille of Belgium, crashed out in the first round of the men’s doubles. On Wednesday, July 2, Bopanna and Gille lost 6-3, 6-4 to the third-seeded German team of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in just 1 hour and 4 minutes.

  • In contrast, Yuki Bhambri and Robert Galloway advanced to Round 2 after a hard-fought victory over Manuel Guinard and Romain Arneodo. They won 7-6 (8), 6-4 in 1 hour and 49 minutes. Bhambri and Galloway will next face the winner of the match between Robin Haase & Jean-Julien Rojer and Nuno Borges & Marcus Giron.

  • Bhambri will also compete in the mixed doubles, pairing with China’s Xinyu Jiang. They will play against Americans Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Christian Harrison in their first-round encounter.

  • In another notable men’s doubles result, Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli and Nicolas Barrientos of Colombia pulled off a thrilling comeback win, saving four match points to beat Alexandre Muller and David Goffin 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (11). They now await the winners of the match between Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski and Charles Broom & Joshua Paris.

  • N Sriram Balaji is scheduled to be in action on Thursday, July 3, partnering with Miguel Reyes-Varela of Mexico. They will take on Aleksandar Kovacevic and Learner Tien in their Round 1 match.

India’s doubles campaign remains alive through Bhambri, Bollipalli, and Balaji, even as Bopanna—one of the most experienced Indian players—bows out early.
