A tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district claimed the lives of eleven people on Sunday when a Bolero carrying 15 passengers veered out of control and plunged into a canal. According to initial reports from local authorities, the victims were returning from a temple visit when the vehicle lost control and met with the fatal mishap.
Rescue efforts were swiftly launched, and officials managed to recover the bodies. However, full details and identities of the deceased are still being verified. Four injured passengers were rescued from the waters and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the families affected. Calling the accident “extremely tragic and heart-wrenching,” he announced a financial relief of ₹5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives. He also directed local authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured and emphasized the need for a swift and thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
This devastating event adds to the growing concerns over road safety in the state, particularly involving overcrowded private vehicles often used for long-distance family or group travel.
