For grades three through twelve, NCERT offers a separate module on Operation Sindoor

The NCERT has released a special teaching module on Operation Sindoor for students of classes 3 to 12, aiming to familiarize them with India’s response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the counter-terror measures that followed. The module explains the country’s defense preparedness, use of modern technology, and India’s rising role in global security. Before introducing the details of Operation Sindoor, it briefly refers to Pakistan’s repeated attempts to disturb peace in India, citing major terror incidents like the 2016 Uri attack and the 2019 Pulwama attack.

According to the module, Operation Sindoor was launched in May 2025 as a strong and clear response to the April Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives. The terrorists behind the attack sought to spread fear and create communal tension, but the local people stood united against the violence. Their response, the module highlights, broke stereotypes and reflected the true voice of peace-loving citizens.

The operation was described as India’s strategic and punitive action against terror bases across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. On May 7, 2025, at 1:05 am, India carried out a precision strike targeting terrorist hideouts and training centers. The mission, planned meticulously between April 22 and May 7, was executed with close coordination between the Chief of Defence Staff and the Army, Navy, and Air Force chiefs. The Indian Army destroyed seven camps, while the Air Force successfully struck Muridke and Bahawalpur camps.

The module also narrates Pakistan’s retaliation on May 8, when it attacked India’s air bases, logistic nodes, forward posts, and Army formation headquarters using both conventional weapons and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). However, India’s integrated air defence grid, comprising advanced systems like the S-400, MRSAM, AKASH, and traditional air defence guns, effectively neutralized these threats.

In response, India carried out calibrated precision strikes against select Pakistani air defence systems and sensor networks. Operation Sindoor, the module emphasizes, was not merely retaliation but a carefully designed mission aimed at deterrence. It showcased India’s strategic intent, military strength, and its resolve to counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in a responsible and precise manner.
