Krishangi Meshram, an Indian-origin law graduate, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the youngest solicitor in England and Wales at just 21 years of age. Originally from Iskcon Mayapur in West Bengal and now residing in the United Arab Emirates, Meshram’s academic journey has been extraordinary. She embarked on her law studies at the age of 15 through The Open University (OU), choosing distance learning as a means of balancing her academic goals with her family life. By 18, she had successfully completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with First-Class Honours, becoming the youngest OU student ever to earn this distinction.
The Open University proudly recognized her exceptional achievements, noting that she had once again made history by qualifying as the youngest solicitor in England and Wales. After completing her undergraduate degree, Meshram went on to finish the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and a Master’s degree, further strengthening her academic credentials. She successfully passed the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) in November 2024, and by April 2025, at just 21 years and four months, she was officially admitted as a solicitor by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Her accomplishment has also been highlighted by the Law Society Gazette, the official magazine of the Law Society of England and Wales.
Reflecting on her journey, Meshram expressed immense gratitude to The Open University for not only enabling her studies but also instilling in her the confidence to pursue her ambitions. She emphasized that the university played a pivotal role in helping her believe in her potential, describing it as an integral part of her success. Looking ahead, Meshram has set her sights on exploring the legal aspects of emerging digital technologies, including fintech, blockchain, and artificial intelligence. Her aspiration is to work with leading law firms either in the UK or in the UAE, contributing to the dynamic intersection of law and technology.
One of the most striking aspects of Meshram’s journey was her determination to pursue a British law degree without leaving her family behind at such a young age. At just 15, she opted for distance learning instead of relocating, as she wished to remain close to her parents and younger sister. The flexibility of the Open University program allowed her to study law while continuing to travel with her family, providing both educational rigor and personal balance. She explained that her choice of law as a field of study was motivated by the desire to gain a wide range of transferable knowledge and skills. Through her studies, she developed valuable qualities such as self-discipline, organization, and adaptability—skills that not only aided her in her academic success but also helped her secure a remote position with a law firm in Singapore.
